Lumsden Barkway

The Rt Rev James Lumsden Barkway was an eminent Bishop[1] in the mid part of the Twentieth century.

He was born on 9 July 1878 and educated at Liverpool University and Westminster College, Cambridge.[2] After ten years as a Presbyterian minister his first Anglican post was as a Minor Canon at St Albans Cathedral from where he moved to be Vicar of Christ Church, Luton. Following a spell as Rector of Little Gaddesden he was appointed Bishop of Bedford[3] in 1935. Three years later he was translated to be the Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane[4] where he stayed for eleven years . He died on 12 December 1968.
